Jawaharlal Nehru national urban renewal mission was started for developing the country’s cities. The aim of this scheme was to provide a speed of growth to those cities that are selected under this mission. The name of this mission is selected after India’s first prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru.

Jawaharlal Nehru national urban renewal mission was a step of the government of India’s whose aim was the modernization of Indian cities. This scheme was ran under the central urban development ministry.
It was started by that time’s prime minister Manmohan Singh in September 2005. First, this mission was implemented for seven years and after that, it was extended for another two years.
