Initially, the scheme was announced by the current Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, on 15 August 2014. It was launched on 28 August 2014 under the supervision of former Finance Minister Arun Jaitley.

The accounts opened under this scheme are in the name of most women! In this scheme, more than 59 percent of accounts have been opened in rural and semi-urban areas! In this scheme, you can take a loan of up to 10 thousand on a 6-month-old account.

The accident cover of one lakh rupees is given by the government on this Jan Dhan account to be opened on zero balance. Under this scheme, a life insurance policy of Rs 30,000 will be given to the nominee on the death of the policyholder.

Given the success of this scheme, the government has increased accident insurance for accounts opened after 28 August 2018 from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 2 lakh. With this, the overdraft limit has also been doubled to Rs 10,000. 32 crore in the country by December 2018.

So far, more than 40 crore people have availed the benefit of this scheme, according to government data, 1.30 lakh crore has been deposited in the accounts opened by the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana.

  • There is no minimum amount available in this account.
  • The benefit of any government scheme can be directly delivered to the poor
  • Under this Jan Dhan Khata scheme, withdrawing, depositing, transferring funds, mobile banking facility is all free in the whole of India.
  • Access to pension and insurance products is given to the account holder under this scheme.
  • Under this scheme, anyone over the age of 10 who does not have any bank account can open a bank account with zero balance.
  • Life cover of 30 thousand rupees, which is paid on the death of the victim. However, some rules and conditions have been made for this, which need to be fulfilled only when the victim’s family gets its benefit.

You can open Prime Minister Jan Dhan account in any government bank by giving only Aadhaar card, for this you have to complete the following procedure

Step 1- To open a Jan Dhan account, you have to give one of these documents.

1. Driving License2. Aadhaar Card
3. Voter ID4. Passport
5. PAN card6. MGNREGA Job Card
7. NREGA CARD8. Any other document issued by the Central or State Government
